Has Your Wedding Been Affected by Covid-19? Read This Advice On How A Wedding Planner Can Help

A wedding postponement or cancellation is every couple’s nightmare, very hard to predict, but here we go, COVID-19 …who would have even thought of that, just few months back.

It is a very confusing and unprecedented time in our lives, but it reminded me of one of Charles Darwin, (that’s the science nerd in me) most famous quotes:
“It is not the strongest of the species that survive, nor the most intelligent, but the one most responsive to change”.

A bit dramatic perhaps, but after having overcome the shock of wedding not happening in the next few months, it gives you an idea of what to do when you’re playing the waiting game and not just hoping for the best.

Soo …let’s take a breath and have an action plan.

First check all let’s dig out all your vendors terms and conditions for postponement and cancellation policies, most professional services will have them on their contract.

If you have wedding insurance, which I’d always advise you to get, you should contact your insurance company before anyone else, to check what your policy covers and what it means for you and your vendors.

After clarifying your policy terms, then you can contact the venue and vendors, and as a wedding planner I could assist you through this process.

That being said, it can still be needed for couples to send official cancellation notices to their venue and suppliers, as it might be stated in the terms of their contracts, just to be on the safe side, even if the planner makes the initial calls.

Even if you haven’t hired one a wedding planner, it can be helpful to contact one, to get some advice on a stressful situation and give assistance on coordinating all of your vendors and secure a future date for you.

Any wedding or event planner worth her salt has most likely dealt with last-minute change of plans before, and can guide you through such an emotional time for you.

Whether you were planning to pop the question, or having your actual wedding in the next few months, contacting a wedding planner can give you some useful advice.

In my experience as a London wedding planner, most vendors are serious wedding industry professionals and are happy to accommodate your wedding at a later date, subject to availability of course.

If you booked vendors through your venue, you might have to make fewer callslike in the case where couples tend to book at all-in-one venues, where the catering, florals or other services are part of their package.

If your big day was set up for Spring or Early Summer, I’m pretty sure your wedding invitations have been sent or they are in the process to be printed out or finalised.

In this case the most challenging type of request to arrange might be with your wedding stationary supplier: they already have done the work and they obviously deserve to be paid for it.

I would suggest you trying to reach halfway and maybe get a discounted price for new ones.

WEDDING POSTPONMENT: RESCHEDULING

As general rule of thumb I would advise to post-pone your wedding or event at least 6 months from now, it’s just the safest option and we have to face that.

Most weddings and events are seasonally priced, but again try to talk to your vendors as early as you can.

One more thing to consider in choosing your next date would be wedding settings:
If you decide to get married next Autumn or Winter, keep in mind you might have to tweak your look and your wedding plan especially of you went originally or an outdoor wedding.

Maybe some people won’t be able to attend your future wedding date, and I see your and their disappointment, but ultimately remember your big day is between the two of you and vows you’re going to exchange.

But have you considered showing your wedding ceremony through a video link exclusively accessible to your guests?

Even though they won’t be physically present, they will hugely appreciate the thought of you wanting them to be there during the best day of your life.
As your Wedding Planner I can help you setting it up.

The most important thing after having set up a new date is let your guest know about the postponement as soon as you can (or temporary cancellation until a new date has been agreed on).

In regards to a new “save the date” card, I would leave the decision on etiquette entirely up to you, you could have cards with the new date on, email or make a good old phone call to update friends and family.

Just remember sometimes life with isn't always easy, and focus on the very essence of the wedding day, which is celebrating with your loved ones. Use your time proactively, spending every day with the person you love the most makes the journey worthwhile.
On a positive note, you have more time to make your wedding day even more perfect. And that doesn’t mean necessarily splash out or go over your budget, but you definitely have more time to put more thought into little details, and get more inspiration to add to your favourite Pinterest board.

In the meantime as a wedding planner I keep creating concepts and assist my couples, throughout social distancing times, via videocalls, emails Whatsapp…you name it.

I’m working with existing and new clients to start developing or to finalise their wedding vision, planning their day with even more determination to make it unforgettable.

Social distancing requirements and the Corona Virus may have created the need to reschedule many weddings, and maybe our favourite venue or supplier might already have been busy for your new chosen date, but your wedding planner can help you find more incredible vendors and options.

Life sometimes is totally unpredictable, but it only caused your wedding to be postponed, not your love.
Stay positive and well.

I’m only a phone call away if you need me   .

XOXO

  9. How long does it take for delta 8 edibles to kick in? Here in Florida and many other states marijuana is illegal. We needed something that was legal, safe and had similar effects and benefits of the Illegal stuff. We came upon Delta 8 THC a legal extract of the Hemp plant. After examining it we realized this is exactly what people are looking for.
